Hello CAMPers. I spent today talking with quite a few people who have been looking for a place for their children to train, and those who are much more seasoned….. over 35, who are looking for a place to get them ready for a great outdoor activity season in cycling, marathons, triathlon’s, and adventure racing. One thing during our conversations that kept coming up was that these people were looking for much more than someone who would count their sets and reps for them or yell at them to try harder.
This was a great opportunity to talk about why CAMP, Building Better Athletes has been successful in helping athletes of all ages and disciplines in becoming “Better Athletes”. We hold our staff to very high standards. They all take these standards serious and they expect the other trainers to take them seriously as well. One of these standard is, “the athletes must get better, and you are responsible to make that happen.” This encourages the trainers to be very active with each athlete, making sure that each concept is explained in a way that they athlete can understand and execute. The picture on the left is a great example of a CAMP Performance Specialist, Jane, explaining to one of our young premier soccer players some points of sprint mechanics that she needs to focus on for her upcoming run. I don’t recall what she was telling this young athlete because it was a very busy day and I could hardly hear myself think, but I having worked with this athlete myself before I am sure that it had something to do with foot strike, posture and knee drive.
As you can see by the photo on the right, Jane did a very good job explaining to this athlete what was expected and what she needed to work on. This young soccer player is great to work with and she does a very good job listening to what she can improve on. This is a wonderful example of how important it is for a trainer to be very involved what each athlete needs and how to explain it in a way that it can be applied. Jane is a wonderful trainer who takes great interest in making sure that the athletes get better. She exemplifies what we look for in a Performance Specialist and she has been a very important part of the CAMP team.Andrew Harestad Director of Methodology CAMP, Building Better Athletes LLC
