5 days a week for 5 straight weeks for an hour and a half. That’s CAMP, Building Better Athletes summer conditioning program for girls high school soccer. This year we had four schools involved and dedicated nine of our staff members. Our main purpose behind these programs is to prevent injuries that plague women’s athletics and especially soccer. While we cannot prevent all injuries we do feel that we can prevent the ones that an athlete does to themselves. An athlete can cause injury to themselves by moving incorrectly over and over again, this is known as an overuse injury. This moving incorrectly usually won’t be noticeable to the athlete right away, but when they are tired or have played for a long time, then they will notice it, and eventually can cause an injury that will keep an athlete from playing.
At CAMP we know that a body can often be re-trained to move properly. This is done by showing the athlete what the right way is, explaining why it is important, and then offering opportunities for the athlete to correct the movement.
We are looking forward to our men’s program in the winter.
